Pacemaker Meeting Minutes
September 16, 2009
8:40 a.m. Mrs. Shatlock, Director, gave an update of campus events.
· Tonight is open house for all grades from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.
· Childcare will be offered.
· During arrival time between 6:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m., Wholesome Tummies, lunch vendor, will be giving food samples for parents to taste. Also, class schedules will be passed out to parents.
· From 6:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Mrs. Shatlock will address the parents.
· Mrs. Shatlock invited Pam Fine to speak tonight and she accepted.
· From 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Parents will rotate through the classroom schedules and meet with teachers.
· Afterschool tutorial is going well. Some of the kinks are still being worked out. Teachers are helping decide what the children should be working on during tutorial if they believe the child needs something other than what the parents indicated on the tutorial form.
· The school would like tutorial to more of a tutoring program rather than just more homework time as the students have study hall to work on homework during 7th period.
· A general construction update was given. Work has not ceased. Permits are being issued and badges are still being given to workers. The plan is to move in as soon as the building is up. No date was given.
Mrs. Shatlock answered questions asked from those in attendance.
· Pam Fine asked how to get information into the PBHS Newsletter as well as when it is planned to be completed. Mrs. Shatlock stated that she will defer this question to Mrs. Read.
· A laptop update was requested. Mrs. Shatlock stated that a Dell Representative is putting together a package for pricing. For instance, what the cost would be for 15 versus 30 laptops. No date was given for when this quote would be available.
· A thank you was given regarding the letters the parents are receiving from the PACE Board of Directors.
· It was asked if teachers can be more accountable during tutorial to see that homework is being done. Mrs. Shatlock indicated that as tutorial is still new and believe it to be going well, kinks are still being worked out. Also, the school would like tutorial to be more of tutoring with subjects needing help not just homework time. If no tutoring is needed, then a student could work on special project planning that they may have been assigned or homework.
· It was asked if Reading Counts is for the whole school and the answer was yes.
· It was requested that teachers update their websites more often.
· New parents indicated there is some confusion as to what age levels the afterschool activities are targeting.
· It was asked if music lessons will be offered after school. The answer was “not at this time”. However, if a plan were presented, the school would consider it.
9:25 a.m. Mrs. Shatlock left and a five minute break was taken.
